Socratic Seminar
Socratic Seminar is form of academic discourse used in the ELA classroom to promote deep thinking and discussion among students. These discussions are often used to deeply analyze a text and apply its ideas to the greater world. As a primarily student-led experience, students take ownership of and, ultimately, direct the path of the conversation by building on, opposing, and challenging each other's ideas and reasoning.
